WSJ Survey : US-China ‘trade conflict’ escalates to ‘trade war’
Most of the economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal in the first week of August prefer to classify the trade dispute between the United States and China as a “trade war” as a result of recent escalation
in the conflict, the news organization reported on Thursday.
Following the US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 10% tariffs on all Chinese goods not yet levied and Washington’s labelingof Beijing as a currency manipulator, 87% of the respondents have said the conflict
escalated to the point where it can be considered as a “trade war,” the WSJ stated.
However, despite the rising tensions, trade delegations from the world’s two largest economies are expected to meet in September in Washington to continue their negotiations.
